  • dw, was not aware you were tracking my every move?

stylek - don't let the supposed "over"qualified fools let you feel like your contribution is not worthwhile. In fact, with people like Carel contributing, yours could not be worse!!!!!

    kdeqaf - Gaddafi's impotent cat.

  • Thanks dube, I've been waiting for someone to elicit a serious answer from me.

I didn't vote because I missed the registration day - I moved house. I suppose I could have voted in the old area I was registered in, but saw that as being unfair to the process.

I don't like how voting in our elections has become a categorising influece. Many people asked me if I had voted in much the same way they greet me by "Hi, how are you?" without actually caring.

Then, to their surprise I answer that I did not vote and I get slapped with a "you apathetic SoB" twisted eye-brow.

    Here's a question:

How many of you voted because it is the done thing now days, or because you actively took an interest in your ward, investigated who the parties were, who the councellors are and what they represent?

Very few people I know who voted actually know why they voted!

dw ... step off the sideline please and give us something more than your wit.

  • hmm.. can't say I did the full due diligence thing and checked out all the councellors-voted for the one we had, things have run fairly smoothly in the last term.

Funny thing is by standing as a community representative on the ward committee, you have MUCH more clout than you would by voting. Getting onto these is pretty straightforward so long as you represent some kind of interest group ( I know education and youth movements are two categories)- in most wards you can stand and get onto this committee uncontested. If you know someone on this committee (or are on it) that is by far the simplest way to have continuous access to the counsellor, the fastest possible way of getting your opinion considered.

That's involvement, not standing in a cue to get a pen mark on your thumb
