idle banter

Our very own troll

Well, well, well folks we seem to have adopted/ inherented/ stumbled upon our very own Blog Troll. "Huh?" you may be wondering! A blog troll is someone who infiltrates a blog that allows comments, and then takes pleasure in adding a little more than the usual spice to entries and comments. For a WONDERFUL description of a web troll, check this out.

From the description you will note that a troll loves nothing more than to feed off of the responses to his/her own excrement ... beeeyaaatifuuul! So what's the number one way to bring the troll back to size ... roughly this size:
is to resist the temptation to respond to the feaces he/she dumps on our blog.

Ofcourse, we could try to ban him, remove the comments facility from this blog, and the list goes on ... but what will we achieve? The creation of our own little utopia where no-one challenges and no-one has the frankness to challenge our banter. I sure don't want that!

From what I have seen, our troll has incited us enough to get quite nasty. Most of us who contribute and read idle banter are Christians (i.e. people who believe in Jesus and try to daily figure out what this means in our lives). My question is: to what extent are we willing to let a troll (and there may be many more to come!) lead us down a path of compromising the ways in which we want to connect with people? (I suppose ethics is the issue here). The answer is yours.

My challenge to our troll: the best sports players are in the stand hurling naartjies at the players, how about getting out of the stand, making yourself vulnerable and contribute to the game meaningfully?

  • Dube, you've got me wrong (i.e. reading between the wrong lines). Don't want Steyn off at all just want him to move beyond criticism towards contribution.

PS: I've also used my fair share of "anon"'s.

Hey that’s not very nice and not very Christian, I don’t think ol J.C. would be very happy. What was that he said about turning the other cheek? And on the subject of cheeks this flaming retaliatory post was all because I said you should get off your fat ass and google! A bit sensitive about your ass are you! I bet it’s a big ass, I bet its big and pale isn’t it! Its big and pale and hasn’t been spanked in a while has it? Well don’t worry im sure little Hercules, he’s got a lot of pent up frustration that boy, will give it a spank for you-in a purely non-sexual, platonic god fearing way!

The creation of our own little utopia where no-one challenges and no-one has the frankness to challenge our banter. I sure don't want that!

You are so SENSIBLE, I bet you have one of those stupid trolls with the stupid smelly hair on top of your monitor! You are seriously repressed girl, remember before you can love someone else you need to love yourself and whats the ultimate expression of self-love? Masturbation! And if you are trying to create a utopian existence on this blog, its never gonna work. Hell there was even a serpent in the garden of Eden! Im the foot of God on this blog I am here to measure your faith, and you have been found wanting.

PS trust me on the masturbation, and if you ever get lonely I’ll be outside your house; waving, wearing nothing but a cockring.

  • Check out the skinny on Fundy spam which Steyn doesn't quite appear to be doing - he just lacks any mature decency. How do you have a conversation with someone who's highly intelligent but chooses to act as a pissed off teen? Conversation = give and take...
